VisitLens Visitor Analytics

Help and documentation

Everything you need to set up and read VisitLens.

Getting started

After you add VisitLens, open it from your site dashboard (Apps > VisitLens Visitor Analytics). Counting is on from the start. Wix only runs app scripts on published sites with a Premium plan and a connected domain, so nothing is counted in the Editor, in previews or on free sites. Numbers appear as soon as visitors open your published site; open it yourself in a private window to see the first visit arrive.

The CMS

VisitLens keeps its totals in a collection named VisitLens Stats in your site’s CMS. If your site does not have the CMS yet, the dashboard shows a one-click button to add it (it is free). Until then nothing is counted.

What is counted

  • Page view: a page opened by a visitor, including page changes inside the site.
  • Visit: one browser session. A gap of 30 minutes starts a new visit.
  • New visitor: the first visit from a browser, when “Remember returning visitors” is on.
  • Bounce: a visit that left after a single page.
  • Time on page: the time a page was open and visible, averaged per page view.
  • Entries and exits: the first and last page of a visit.
  • Active now: visitors who had a page open in the last five minutes.

Sources

Channels group visits by where they came from: search engines, social media, AI assistants (such as ChatGPT or Perplexity), email, paid ads, campaigns, other websites and direct (typed address, bookmarks, most apps). Campaign links are recognised by their utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign parameters and by ad click IDs.

Countries

The country comes from the time zone of the visitor’s browser, so it is approximate and no IP address is used or stored. Visitors whose browser reports a generic time zone show as Unknown.

Your own visits

In Settings click “Stop counting this browser”. It opens your site with a flag that your browser remembers; do it once in every browser you use. “Count it again” removes the flag.

Heatmaps (Pro)

Clicks are recorded as positions on each page, separately for desktop, mobile and tablet. In Behavior, click “Open heatmap on my site” to see the page with the clicks drawn over it. The link contains a private key, so only you can open the overlay; it is never shown to visitors.

Scroll depth and page flows (Pro)

Scroll depth shows the share of page views that reached 25, 50, 75 and 100 percent of a page. Page flows show the most common next page after each page, for the last three months.

Events (Pro)

Clicks on links to other websites, file downloads, email and phone links and form sends are counted without any setup. From your own site code you can call window.visitlens.event('name', 'detail') to count anything else, for example a video start.

Goals (Pro)

A goal is a page visitors should reach, such as /thank-you-page* after an order, or an event they should trigger, such as form. Each goal counts once per visit and shows a conversion rate against all visits. Business sites also get a store funnel from product pages to cart, checkout and order confirmation, with no setup.

History and storage

The free plan keeps 30 days, Pro 12 months and Business 24 months. Totals are stored per day and per month, never per visitor, so the collection stays small. Settings shows the number of items in use; when the budget is reached, the oldest breakdowns are removed first and daily totals last.

Questions

Will it slow down my site?

No. The script is a few kilobytes, loads at the end of the page and sends one small request per page view.

Why are the numbers different from other tools?

Every tool counts a little differently: session length, bots, in-site page changes and visitors who block scripts all play a role. VisitLens counts browser sessions with a 30-minute gap and ignores bots, editors and previews.

Does it set cookies?

No. With “Remember returning visitors” on, the browser keeps one small storage entry with the date of its first visit, and the current visit is kept in session storage. Nothing identifies the visitor.

What happens if I cancel a paid plan?

Cancel in your site’s Subscriptions page. Paid tools stay active until the end of the paid period, then the app continues on the Free plan. Your settings and goals are kept.

How do I remove the app?

Open Apps > Manage Apps in your dashboard and delete VisitLens. The script and the VisitLens Stats collection are removed with it.
