BlockSense Ad Blocker Detector
Help and documentation
Everything you need to set up and run BlockSense.
Getting started
After you add BlockSense, open it from your site dashboard (Apps > BlockSense Ad Blocker Detector). It is switched on with a popup notice. Change anything you like and click Save; your published site uses the new settings right away. Wix only runs app scripts on published sites with a Premium plan and a connected domain, so the notice does not show in the Editor preview or on free sites.
Testing it
Open your published site in a browser that has an ad blocker turned on. The notice appears after the delay you set (1 second by default). Open it in a normal browser window without a blocker and nothing appears. If you closed the notice, open a new private window to see it again.
Notice types
- Popup: a centered message over the page. On phones it slides up from the bottom.
- Banner: a slim bar at the top or bottom of the page.
- Corner: a small card in a corner that does not cover your content.
- Silent: shows nothing and only counts visitors with an ad blocker.
- Wall (Pro): content stays blurred and locked until ads are allowed. With Business you can lock only part of the page.
- Redirect (Business): visitors with an ad blocker are sent to a page you choose, for example a membership page.
The main button
“I’ve allowed ads” checks again without leaving the page. If the blocker is off, the visitor sees a thank-you message and the page reloads so your ads load. If it is still on, they see your “still blocked” message and the how-to steps.
Rules
- Show after: seconds to wait before the notice appears.
- After a visitor closes the notice: show it again on the next page, on their next visit, or after a number of days (Pro).
- From page number (Pro): only show it from the second or third page of a visit.
- Devices, and pages to include or exclude (Pro). Use one path per line and * as a wildcard, for example /blog/*.
- Schedule (Business): start and end date and time.
- Detection sensitivity (Pro): Relaxed needs two signals, Balanced suits most sites, Strict also counts privacy browsers and network-level blocking.
Analytics
The Overview tab shows visits checked, the ad blocker rate, notices shown, visitors who allowed ads and who closed the notice, by day, device, detection method and page. Counts are anonymous and stored in a collection named BlockSense Stats in your site’s CMS. If your site has no CMS yet, click “Add the free Wix CMS” in the Overview tab, then Refresh. History is kept for 7 days on Free, 90 days on Pro and 12 months on Business. Business can export the numbers as a CSV file.
A/B test (Business)
Turn on the A/B test in Business tools and write a second notice. Each visitor is assigned notice A or B and keeps it. The Overview tab shows which notice gets more visitors to allow ads.
Translations (Pro)
Add a language in the Languages tab and translate the texts. The notice uses the texts that match the page language and falls back to your main texts.
Your own ad container (Business)
If your ads load into a known element, enter its CSS selector (for example #sidebar-ad). When it stays empty or hidden, the visit counts as blocked. This catches blockers the standard checks miss.
Questions
Will it slow down my site?
No. The script is small, loads at the end of the page and runs its checks in the background.
Can a visitor still use my site?
Yes, unless you choose the Wall or Redirect type. Popup, banner and corner notices can be closed.
Does it work on free Wix sites?
Wix only runs app scripts on Premium sites with a connected domain. Sites that show their own ads are almost always on such a plan.
What happens if I cancel a paid plan?
Paid features stay active until the end of the paid period. Your settings are kept, and the free plan limits apply after that.
